Mock Meet and Volunteer Sign up 2025

Hi BCC families, What a great start! Thank you for making our first two practices fun, upbeat, and (mostly) organized while I find my footing as your new coach. Your patience and positivity mean the world. You’ll quickly learn that I believe strongly in building community. That’s for your kids as well as hopefully with all of you. The goal is to have a successful season and give your kids all they deserve!

Suits & Team Apparel We’re still waiting on final approval for the updated logo. Please hold off on ordering suits or gear until I send the green light with the login link—then we’ll get everything processed quickly. Thank you for your patience!
Mock Meet — Thursday 6/17 @ 5:00 p.m.
  • Arrival window: 4:00–4:15 p.m. (team meeting at 4:30)
  • Location: BCC pool deck
  • Purpose: Practice meet flow, test relays, give new swimmers a low-pressure first race
  • Help me get a feel for how the meets run!
  • The snack bar will be Open!
Because SwimTopia isn’t live yet, I’ve set up a Google sheet (link below) where you can:
  1. Confirm your swimmer’s attendance for the mock meet.
  2. Indicate if you can volunteer on Thursday.

Volunteers & Officials Needed

  • Timers, deck helpers, runners — no experience required.
  • Stroke-and-Turn Officials — we’ll need at least three per meet all season. If you’re willing to certify (quick online clinic + four shadowed meets), let me know. In the meantime, we still need officials for the mock meet.
Our success depends on your help, so if you can lend a hand—even for one meet—please sign up on the sheet.
1. Officials (our most urgent need) The Champlain Valley Swim League (CVSL) requires three certified stroke-and-turn officials at every meet—home and away. More certified parents means each of you works fewer meets. WITHOUT OFFICIALS WE CAN’T compete! Officials An official’s job is to watch swimmers’ races to make sure that they are swimming legally. Becoming an official involves a very brief training process to ensure that you are up-to-date on competition rules. That means that the more officials we have, the less often each has to officiate. Please help out our current officials (whom we appreciate so much!) by signing up. We count on your support! How to become an official: Complete the online course at USA Swimming University → https://university.usaswimming.org/landing (about two hours, self-paced).
Pass the open-book quiz at the end (30 min).
  1. Shadow four meets alongside an experienced official—after that, you’re fully certified and on deck! This Thursday’s Mock meet is a great place to start!

2. Team-Manager Roles Delegating a few higher-commitment jobs keeps meets smooth and swimmers happy:
Role
What You’ll Do Time Needed
Volunteer Coordinator Manage sign-ups in SwimTopia; fill empty slots ~4–5 hrs/wk
States Coordinator Book hotel block & plan team dinner for the August State Meet ~2–3 hrs/wk (June–Aug)
Media Manager Gather meet photos, build an album & share highlights with BCC marketing ~2–3 hrs/wk

Ready to Help out?
  • Officials: Use the google sheet attached to let me know your availability
  • Still Unsure? Shoot me an email or stop me on the pool deck - I’m happy to talk it through.

As a reminder, this is my first season. It's been 20 years since I've been on a pool deck. I'm super confident that we'll figure it all out, but please be patient with me as the season begins. I'm really excited to be here working with your kiddos and hope I can share a little bit of my love for the sport with all of you. Thank you for showing me just how special BCC Swim Team is—I’m already thrilled to be part of this community! See you on deck,
